Hi Blog Friends!
I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend and is enjoying the beautiful weather. It looks like the next week should be amazing! Kelly and I enjoyed this afternoon's gorgeous weather by taking a 7 mile run down the Lake Shore Trail. Here is the recap, and then the reason behind the title of this post.
The run was awesome. There was no stopping, no slowing down, no drinks of water. Just 7 straight, steady miles. We averages 10.5 minute miles (which is GREAT for me for a long distance). We both felt great and I was really happy to have a reason to spend so much of this gorgeous Sunday outside.
So, after this great run you might wonder why the title of this post is unsettled. Well, strangely, it's the only way I can describe how I am feeling roughly 4 hours after this magnificent run. I also felt "unsettled" after the 6 mile run last week. It's weird. I'm not sure if I want a nap, if I'm still hungry, or if I need water. Nothing really sounds the great, but I am also not totally comfortable. I feel a mix between having had way too much coffee and being totally exhausted, which is strange because those two feelings contradict each other. I don't feel bad, I actually feel good. I just feel very unsettled. Not sure what to do to make myself feel back to normal.
So... any runner friends with advice? What am I missing? Water? Food? Sleep? Nothing? Help me feel settled!
First of all, great job! That's an awesome average time!
ReplyDeleteSecond, that is a hard puzzle...I'm inclined to say that food is what you need. Sometimes after a long run I'm not exactly hungry, but obviously I/you need calories after exercising for that long. But who knows. Your body does weird things when you're training for long races, so it might just be something to get used to.
I think I narrowed it down to a combo of carbs and lots of water. Crackers and about 12 glasses of water did the trick!
ReplyDeleteWater... and we need to stop drinking so much the night before we go for long runs. :) I'll bring a water bottle with me this week!

7 miles without a water stop, or any hydration in general is not good.
